Running, Rushing, And More Running....

Yesterday was another hectic one. D had another PT session--he really likes it so far. Then he tagged along, as usual, while I did house calls. We spent quite a while chasing down some semi-feral cats and vaccinating them. Unfortunately, I am going to have to make another trip out there to finish up. The cats scattered all over the property and I only found about half of them. Today my hands are swollen and painful from all of the bites and scratches I received.... We then spent the rest of the afternoon driving through traffic and visiting other patients around town... D was very good. For the most part, he just sat quietly and watched me work. He asks what everything is, and is learning English at an unbelievable rate. When I tell people that he has only been in the US for 2 months, they are very impressed with his vocabulary. He really is an extremely bright boy. He is very inquisitive and helpful. He loves to give the pets treats after they have received treatment. It amazes me that he had been labeled as mentally retarded in Russia-- there is absolutely nothing "retarded" about him!

One thing that I have noticed, however, is that his attention span is short when it comes to sitting down and trying to learn recognition of letters and numbers. He just does not want to sit still for very long to have "lessons". I worry that he will have a hard time concentrating in school. He is also pretty impulsive at times. I have a feeling that I will be called for parent-teacher conferences frequently next year...

We were running late to pick up the girls. We had to rush home to get Big A changed for her T-ball game, and run by McDonald's to pick up dinner. I really hate to feed the kids McD's for two reasons, I hate to feed them that crap, and I hate to spend the money. However, there was no time to feed them a decent meal and get to the ball field. But, wouldn't you know it, as soon as the game was about to start, a thunder storm rolled through and the game was cancelled!! So we ran back to the car and headed home. Bummer! All that rushing around for nothing.
