Independence Day Adventures...

Our Independence Day was very nice-- quiet, laid back, and fun... The kids and I spent the morning out in the yard-- I stained more of the fence (seems like a never-ending project), attempted to jump start the riding mower ( Unsuccessfully... I finally just push mowed the back yard), and did other tedious chores in the yard. The children spent the morning playing in the sandbox and fighting, playing on the swing set and fighting, playing baseball and fighting, etc, etc... We had a picnic lunch on the deck, then we all went for a little swim in the pool -- or in my case, a little wade ( the water is only 27 inches deep).

Later, we went to downtown Decatur to watch the fireworks. We parked on top of a parking deck--less crowded and an unobstructed view of the fireworks. We got there early and had a picnic dinner. Then I took the kids down to the square to kill time before dark. There was a band playing on the square, and the place was packed. The kids had a great time dancing to the music and walking through the crowds...

(Usually it is a misting fountain, but
I guess it was turned off due to the drought)

Inspecting Thomas Jefferson's Head...

When it started getting dark, we went back to our "secret spot" on the parking deck to watch the fireworks show... At first they were all very excited, but, of course, halfway through the fireworks, Big A was asking when it would be over... D was complaining that he had to pee, and Little A was complaining that she was hungry... Happy July 4th!!! :)
Waiting For The Fireworks To Start
On the way home, we had to pull over on the side of the road to let D pee---he could hold it no longer! Just one of life's little emergencies. At least it was the boy that had to pee...
